Nook Farmhouse is a traditional home dating from as far back as the 1500s at a time where the area would have been busy with ‘Border Reiving’ and general lawlessness. Hadrian’s Wall is approx. 20 minutes away by car and the Maidens Way extends to Bewcastle where there is a Norman Castle built on the site of the original Roman fort. Times have changed and the property now enjoys one of the most peaceful and stunning rural positions just over the border in Cumbria and near the village of Newcastleton, which is 15 minutes away by car. The 7Stanes mountain biking track at Newcastleton and also selection of excellent bistro restaurants and pubs.

The farmhouse has been carefully and lovingly updated while retaining the charm and character of the original farm. Suited to a family or small group the property has three bedrooms, two doubles, and one single all located upstairs. The living space in the house has many practical and enjoyable features for any time of year. The thick traditional stone walls retain the heat in the winter and keep the house nice and cool in the summer. The farmhouse is detached and part of a large courtyard with the owners’ property adjacent.

After a day exploring, the wood burner in the living room is perfect for relaxing in front of while watching movie. There is a selection of books, games, DVDs, etc. The large kitchen/dining room has modern appliances and a traditional Rayburn wood-burning range cooker, but there is also an electric oven and induction hob. There is a downstairs bathroom with a large rose power shower over bath.

The gardens are shared with chickens and two pet sheep. This gorgeous space is ideal for barbecues or simply just sitting and enjoying peace and quiet with only the sounds of birds and wildlife surrounding you. The kids will love the wild meadow-like areas of the gardens inspired by the owner’s production of honey and understanding of bees (no bees are kept at the property). There are private seating areas and a small woodland. Due to its natural location and thriving ecology, there is an abundance of wildlife and bats as they have been known to roost at the farm and can be seen flying in the evenings and sometimes can be heard at night. The owners also have a dog who is very friendly but may on occasion bark. During haymaking, tractors do use the very small road near the property as it is close to a working farm. The average amount of traffic per day is approximately 3-4 cars.

No smoking or vaping anywhere on the premises.
